Most homeowners don’t give much thought to how water drains from their property, but the drainage system is an important part of keeping your lawn healthy. There are two main types of drainage systems: surface drainage and subsurface drainage.
Surface Drain Systems
Surface drainage systems, also known as French drains, are trenches that are filled with gravel or other permeable materials. They are typically used to divert water away from problem areas, such as foundation walls or areas of the yard that are prone to flooding.
Subsurface Drain Systems
Subsurface drainage systems are installed beneath the ground and typically consist of a network of perforated pipes. They are used to collect and redirect water that has already soaked into the ground. By redirecting water away from problem areas, these systems help to prevent wet spots and foundation damage.
